Update + WINNER!

Hi, friends. How are you doing? πŸ’• It’s Laura here and I decided to write a short post for a quick chat and to announce the winner of the $25 gift voucher to My Favorite Things. The winner is Kristina Hein! Congratulations, Kristina. πŸ˜„ And a big thank you to all the sweet card makers who entered the giveaway!

You all know I graduated in June as a Kindergarten Teacher, right? πŸ‘©πŸ»β€πŸ« Well, finding a job in teaching isn’t so easy here. Especially when you want to teach in the area where you live, like I do and all of the schools I reached out to myself, don’t have any job openings. With that being said, I still don’t have a job and it honestly makes me so sad. πŸ˜” The new school year here has kicked off yesterday (Sept. 3th) and I feel useless. What if I won’t find a job as a kindergarten teacher? I honestly can’t imagine me doing something else than teaching (or card making πŸ™Š) since it’s my childhood dream.

Because of this, my card making mojo is gone. I tried making a card over the past couple of days but it never really worked out. 🀨 So right now I’m trying to get my creative juices flowing again by browsing Pinterest, following new card making blogs and watching card making videos on YouTube. I hope that will do the trick. πŸ€ I’m also going to focus on the things that make me feel happy like working out and baking delicious goods with my mom (lol, odd combo, right?).

Get those creative juices flowing (Amy Tangerine)

Thanks for your support. I will be back soon and of course I will keep you updated on my job hunt. Sending big, big hugs! πŸ’›

  1. Hi, Laura! Oh no, it makes me sad when friends are sad. I hope you feel better soon, and find something somewhere near you! Take all the time you need and come back refreshed! 😊 Sending happy thoughts and big hugs! πŸ’–

  2. Laura,
Some years are harder to find a teaching position than others. My daughter is lucky to teach in her town while her friend has to drive many miles. My suggestion is to sign up as a substitute in several school districts. Teachers always get sick and would love to have a sub as special as you are, Baking with your mom sounds like a great way to get your card making mojo back!

  3. Oh, so sad that you haven’t found a teaching position. Just get on the school districts substitute teacher list. Sub in the elementary schools and they will get to know your face and enthusiasm about teaching. My daughter went through the same thing. Keeping you in my prayers that everything will work out.

Thanks, Joan. πŸ’› Yes! I am on those lists. I contacted my favorite schools in the area and gave them my resume and motivational letter.

  4. Don’t be too discouraged. Things have a way of working out. Teachers have to leave their jobs sometimes in the middle of the year. Just be positive and concentrate on your art. When the time is right, the opportunity will pop up out of the blue. Hugs….

Thanks, Donna. πŸ’• I got called today by the school where I did my internship. πŸ˜„ I’ll be a substitute teacher there tomorrow! Just one day, but it’s a beginning! Looks like all of your positive vibes worked.

  5. Echoing what others have said. Our daughter was a December graduate. Of course she couldn’t find a permanent job then as a science teacher. She ended up getting a long term sub job in a nearby district. They loved her there and she got a referral to her current school from someone she met there. Consider all options at this pointβ€”Doors will open. Keep your chin up! It’ll all work out!

Thanks, Carol. I just got a call from a local school (the school where I did my internship) and they need a substitute teacher tomorrow. Yay! πŸ€ It’s only for one day, but it’s a start! Thanks for your sweet words. πŸ’•

  6. Hello sweet Laura,
I am so sorry that a local teaching job hasn’t come along yet, but please don’t despair…as others have stated, sign up for a substitute teaching job in as many districts as you can. When you show up to cover a sick teacher, they will get to know how smart and how creative you are, as well as your outstanding character! That is when a job will be offered to you πŸ™‚

Meanwhile, I will keep you in my prayers…please don’t ever lose hope…I know at some point your dreams of teaching will come true!

Have fun baking with your mom, and don’t worry about us…when you get your mojo back, I know we are going to see some gorgeous cards coming out of your craft room!
    Big hugs, my friend!
    Barb xx
